Yes! As the mother of three (now young adult) children, I love kids! I will start kids as young as 9.
At this time, I prefer to teach one-on-one. But I am open to group lessons on a case-by-case basis. Click HERE to sign up for my mailing list to be notified when group lessons will be offered.
Learning something new is more fun with a friend! Learn with a friend in your home or at the library (BYO machine). You each pay $175 for the four-week session.
Private sewing lesson can be scheduled evenings between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm and on weekends between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.
Absolutely! I helped a lot of people solve sewing problems during my seven years at the cutting counter at Joann Fabrics! Do you have a specific project that you need help with? A stuck zipper? A ripped seam? Want to DIY a repair but not sure how to approach it? Let me help you figure it out. Mini-consulting sessions are $35 for a half hour and are conducted in my home near Rt 59 and 75th.
No, I do not do alterations. I can teach you to do your own or I can recommend some terrific seamstresses in the area who provide that service.
Hi, I’m Laura, and I’ve been sewing for 50 years. My love for sewing began in childhood, and by age 12, I had already started my own puppetry business. Over the years, I’ve developed extensive experience in a wide range of sewing techniques, from garment construction—including everyday clothing, baby and children’s wear, costumes, cosplay, swimwear, lingerie, and wedding dresses (including my own and my daughter’s!)—to quilting, outerwear, home décor (curtains, draperies, window shades, pillows, etc.), and even embroidery, crochet, and other fiber arts.
For seven years, I worked at the cutting counter at Joann Fabrics and Crafts in Naperville, helping customers find the perfect materials to bring their creative visions to life. Now, I focus on teaching one-on-one sewing lessons, sharing my knowledge and love for the craft with others.
I grew up in the Chicago area but have traveled extensively—ask me about the year I spent in Budapest! I also have a degree in film production and spent several years working for The Oprah Winfrey Show.
When I’m not sewing, I enjoy all kinds of DIY projects and creative pursuits. I have three young adult children and a cat named Louie, who loves to keep me company while I work.
Sewing is a lifelong passion, and I’d love to help you discover the joy of creating something with your own hands. Let’s explore the world of sewing together!
